Donna Ambrose, SPILLERS® competition nutritionist, visits Pony Club camp
February 2009
7:00am - Why it’s breakfast of course – not just for me, but for the horses too!
8:00am – It’s still only early on in the day, but I am up and excited about my Pony Club Talk I will be doing later in the day at Swindon! Back to my roots and Pony Club days, only this time as a Competition Nutritionist. Back then I would never have guessed I would be lucky enough to do diets for the likes of William Fox-Pitt, Jeanette Brakewell, Andrew Hoy, Ferdi Eilberg and work with people like Tim Stockdale and The Whitakers...
9:00 – 11:30am – Visit yards around the Swindon area; everyone has a horse or pony that they want me to look at!
12:00pm – Lunch with the Pony Club instructors; the food was fab, a lot better than I remember.
1:00pm – Time to talk! A number of the members are due to take the C test tomorrow (scary moments) so we focus on identifying different types of feedstuffs and how it is digested in their ponies. Do you know the difference between oats and barley? Or how fibre is digested in your pony and why it is so important?
2:00pm – Everyone scurries away to tack their horses up. I’m so jealous I want to ride too!! It’s not fair being at the Pony Club without having a riding lesson. I hear bare back jumping was the order of the afternoon – how cool!
3:00pm – I visit more yards, meeting all kinds of people and horses.
5:00pm – Time to drive home, with a chance to visit my horse Shakira and have a ride!
6:00pm – Feed time for Shakira, SPILLERS® Cool Mix™ of course...
7:00pm – Phew, finally home! Time to have a bit of tea and watch a bit of TV of course. What a Brilliant Day. It truly is fabulous to still be a part of the Pony Club!!! I hope I always will be.
