Choose the right fibre with SPILLERS®

October 2008

Fibre is fundamental to your horse’s health. Choosing the right fibre can improve your horse’s wellbeing and condition and can make your compound feed work more effectively. This in turn can help your pocket. SPILLERS® have formulated their fibre feeds to help you make the right choices this winter, keeping your horse and your bank balance in good shape.

“Perhaps most importantly during the winter, the process of fibre digestion produces heat, which effectively acts as the horse’s own ‘central heating system’ keeping the horse warm during the cold weather,” says Clare Barfoot BSc (Hons) RNutr, registered nutritionist and research and development manager for SPILLERS®. “The addition of chopped fibre to your horse’s compound feed will increase fibre intake and will also extend eating time for the stabled horse.”

Choosing a good quality fibre should make your hard feed work better, which can be much more cost-effective in the long term. If you are using a low energy feed it makes sense to choose SPILLERS® Cool Fibre with magnesium. For a conditioning feed choose SPILLERS® Conditioning Fibre with extra soya oil and protein. Both are highly palatable and contain a full spectrum of vitamins and minerals to provide more nutrition than any other chopped fibre blends. Both can be combined with a mix or cube or fed as a replacement for compound feed.
