Blue Cross recruiting adventurous riders for charity trek across the Andes

September 2006

The Blue Cross are searching for riders with a sense of adventure to join them on ‘The Andes of Ecuador Adventure’ scheduled to run from 6th –14th September 2007.

Blue Cross TrekThis is a very unique opportunity to take part in an amazing horse trek challenge through the high Andes of Ecuador: across vast grassy plains to remote areas between the snow-capped volcanoes.  Accompanied by skilled local horsemen and bilingual guides, the riders will pass through stunning scenery, visited only by local ‘chagras’ (cowhands) – with a good chance of seeing the mighty Andean condor souring overhead.

The challenge will start along the ‘Avenue of Volcanoes’, with rocky summits and snowy peaks lining the way, climbing into remote rolling hills and the open grasslands south of the Cotopaxi volcano.  The riders will pass through Cotopaxi National Park with its unique lunar landscape, crossing old lava flows and scree as the ride skirts around mounds pushed up by past volcanic activity.

Blue Cross TrekThe ride offers very varied terrain and pace: from cantering across the open plains accompanied by wild horses to ascending steep, rocky mountain trails.  Accommodation will be a mixture of camping and local haciendas and you will be trekking an average of 7 hours per day over 5 days staying.

The Blue Cross have joined forces with the ILPH, which enables them to offer you this amazing and completely unique trip.  It is not possible to buy this trip “off the shelf”, so once this trip has been filled, there won’t be another opportunity!

Although The Blue Cross are “sharing” this trip with the ILPH, it should be noted that money raised by Blue Cross supporters will only go to the Blue Cross.
