Winter Feeding - Plan now
Isabel Stewart Bsc (Hons), SPILLERS® nutritionist
Now is the time of year to review your horses or ponies diet to take into account the natural changes in the weather and in the goodness of the grass. During the autumn, grass growth slows and its quality falls as it becomes higher in fibre, less digestible and has less vitamin activity.
Fibre should be the foundation of every horse’s diet as it is fundamental for digestive health. Adding a double handful of chopped fibre to your horse’s feed is routine but how many of us choose a chopped fibre that specifically complements the mix or cube that we use?
SPILLERS® Cool and Conditioning Fibre are a unique balanced blend of natural fibres specifically deigned to complement either low energy or conditioning feeds. If your horse or pony is in light work; a low calorie fibre blend such as SPILLERS® Cool Fibre is ideal; not only will its short chop form extend eating time and provide extra bulk but the inclusion of a broad spectrum of vitamins and minerals including magnesium known for its calming properties will provide your horse or pony with more nutrition than any other chopped fibre blend.
If however you horse or pony struggles to hold condition during the winter months, choose SPILLERS® Conditioning Fibre; with the inclusion of soya oil and quality protein Conditioning Fibre has been specifically formulated to help build condition without excitability. Additionally enriched with a broad spectrum of vitamins and minerals to support all round health and the short chopped form to extend eating time, Conditioning Fibre is the ideal choice to help support your horse or pony this winter.
