1) Qualifiers and Championships, and Non-Qualifiers
Preliminary
a) There will be approximately 20 qualifiers with the 2 highest placed non-qualified horses in each going forward to the Championship.
b) To be eligible to compete, horses must have won 0 points in Eventing, less than 75 points in Affiliated Dressage and 0 points in Combined Training Competitions. For Non-Qualifiers only horses must have won less than 20 points in Combined Training Competitions.
c) Dressage Tests: Any Preliminary Test to be ridden in Qualifiers.
d) There will be no combined training points awarded for preliminary level.
e) Once a Rider has gained open points at Combined Training they may not ride in Preliminary Combined Training classes.
Novice
a) There will be approximately 20 qualifiers with the 2 highest placed non-qualified horses in each going forward to the Championship.
b) To be eligible to compete, horses must have won less than 21 points in British Eventing, less than 150 points in Affiliated Dressage and less than 20 points in Combined Training Competitions. For Non-Qualifiers only horses must have won less than 30 points in Combined Training Competitions.
c) Dressage Tests: Any Novice test to be ridden in Qualifiers/Non-Qualifiers.
Open
a) There will be approximately 20 qualifiers with the 2 highest placed non-qualified horses in each going forward to the Championship.
b) Open to any horse registered with the British Dressage, except those that have started in a C.D.I. or C.D.I.O.
c) Dressage Tests: Any Elementary test to be ridden in Qualifiers.
2. General Rules on Combined Training Qualifiers and Championships
a) Combinations may compete and qualify on a class ticket however they must be a member of British Dressage and the horse must be registered with British Dressage to take part in the Championship.
b) If eligible a horse may compete in Preliminary and Novice or Novice and Open Qualifiers on the same day.
c) Horses may continue to compete in qualifiers after they have qualified provided that the class is not oversubscribed.
d) Where qualifiers take place at a British Eventing competition, competitors must abide by the Rules relating to general behaviour at the event.
e) Horses must be ridden in the Championship by the same person who qualified them.
f) Grading. Horses will be graded as follows for Novice and Open classes:

g) Composition
The dressage and jumping phases, which make up this competition, must be ridden in that order. The same horse and rider must complete both phases, and elimination from one phase involves elimination from the whole competition.
h) Judges
There must be one or more Dressage Judges, drawn from the Official Panel and one B.S.J.A. Judge.
i) Qualifications
The eligibility of both horse and rider is governed by British Dressage Rules.
j) Dressage Phase
The Dressage Phase is conducted according to British Dressage Rules.
k) Jumping Phase
The Jumping Phase will consist of one round of the course, judged under B.S.J.A. Rules, except where modified below. There will be approximately 8 to 12 numbered obstacles, including at least one double, as solid and imposing in appearance as available materials allow. N.B. The height of practice fences must not exceed the maximum height of the fences in the competition arena.
l) Obstacles
Preliminary - The first two fences will be 2’6". All other uprights and ascending fences will be 2’9" Spread fences will not exceed 4’6" and parallels will not exceed 3’3" in spread.
Novice - The first two fences will be 3’0’’. All other uprights and ascending fences will not exceed 3’3". Spread fences will not exceed 5ft and parallels will not exceed 3’6" in spread.
Open - The first three fences will be 3’3". All other uprights and ascending fences will be 3’6" in height. Spread fences will not exceed 5’3’’ and parallels will not exceed 4ft in spread.
A water jump should not be included in any Combined Training competition.
Preliminary Final. The maximum height of the fences will be 3’0’’. Triple bars or staircase-type fences will not exceed 5’0’’ in spread and parallels will not exceed 3’9’’ in spread. A combination or two doubles must be included.
Novice Final. The maximum height of the fences will be 3’6’’. Triple bars or staircase-type fences will not exceed 5’6’’ in spread and parallels will not exceed 4’3’’ in spread. A combination or doubles must be included.
Open Final. The maximum height of the fences will be 3’9’’. A combination or two doubles must be included.
Speed. The speed for Preliminary, Novice and Open Classes is 350 yards per minute (325 metres per minute).
The time taken by each competitor must be recorded, even if it is within the time allowed, as this may be the deciding factor in the event of a tie.
m) Penalties
First Disobedience: 4 penalties
Second Disobedience in whole test: 8 penalties
Third Disobedience in whole test: Elimination
Knocking down an obstacle: 4 penalties
First fall of competitor: 8 penalties
Second fall of competitor: Elimination
First fall of horse: Elimination
For every commenced second in excess of the Time Allowed: ¼ penalty Exceeding the Time Limit: Elimination
n) Scoring
The marks for the Dressage Phase are totalled in the normal manner, but if there is more than one Judge, their scores are averaged.
Any faults incurred in the Jumping Phase are deducted from the marks awarded for the Dressage Phase.
o) Equality
If the final score gives equality of marks to two or more competitors, the classification is decided by the highest marks for the dressage test. If there is still equality, the fastest time in the jumping test determines the result.
p) Saddlery
Dressage - According to Dressage Rules.
Jumping - According to B.S.J.A. Rules except that standing martingales and Market Harboroughs are not allowed.
q) Dress
According to British Dressage Rules, except during the show jumping phase a hard hat of BSI standard must be worn, with its harness correctly fastened and with a black or navy blue cover, or alternatively a PAS5015. This rule also applies when jumping practice obstacles.
