In our blog ‘Can you recognise an overweight horse’, we discussed the findings from a study carried out in collaboration with SPILLERS which found that both amateur and professional ‘horse managers’ vary in their ability to visually identify overweight horses and ponies. Therefore, rather than assessing a horse’s condition by eye alone, we recommend that horse owners body condition score (BCS) regularly.
In our body condition score video series, we have 8 short videos which introduce the tool, talk through what to look for across your horse’s body and what the final score means for their daily care programme…
For more information about using the BCS method or help with calculating the final score you can use our useful Body Condition Score tool or alternatively call the Care-Line on 01908 22 66 26 for more advice.
