We recently caught up with Rebecca Melling who runs a small yet very successful breeding yard in Preston, Lancashire called Forrest Sport Horses & Stud to find out the secret behind her horses looking so well.

How did you begin your career in breeding?

I started my career breeding horses at a young age. By the age of sixteen I was both competing and handling top stallions with experience in stud duties, foal deliveries and young stock handling. I gained my experience and knowledge by working in top professional stud yards for seven years acquiring experience in breaking, schooling and producing young horses for every discipline.

To extend my knowledge and experience further, I moved to Tim and Christie Fairburn’s in Lincoln where I was able to ride and train some of the best horses in the country while being taught to turn out to the highest of standards.

Forrest Sport Horses was then co-founded by myself and Georgina Cook back in 2000.

Can you tell me a bit about your horses?

We have such a wide variety of horses here at Forrests Sport horses ranging from our broodmare’s to our competition horses and our handsome stallion Daquiri who always has to be looking in tip top condition.

How long have you fed SPILLERS for and why?

We have been feeding SPILLERS for the past 10-15 years to our horses and I can honestly say their feeds suits them all. I first used it on a big 17.3hh Warmblood called Wizard who I bought as a 4 year old many years ago now. With him being so big and looking slightly under weight, I didn’t want to pump him with too much high energy feed as I didn’t want to make him any sharper, we also like to keep all our horses diets as fibre based as possible. We where recommended SPILLERS Conditioning Fibre for him and have never looked back since- he always shines in the ring and looks amazing.

SPILLERS Conditioning Fibre is a fond favourite on our yard and it is a feed we couldn’t do without, it keeps their coats gleaming and there condition top class. Our 5 year old quirky homebred mare Forrests Rose Gold is currently fed SPILLERS Conditioning Fibre which has been essential to her diet for keeping her in a fabulous competition condition.

Thank you Rebecca for such a great insight into your life and the background behind how Forrest Sports Horse & Stud began and became so successful.
